Probiotics are friendly microbes (bacteria and yeasts) that are beneficial for you, and your pets (dogs and cats) especially the digestive system. Actually, There are millions of them (microbes) present in the gastrointestinal system of all animals and humans. They help in the digestion of food and synthesize essential nutrients.
Probiotics for dogs and for humans, both are responsible to protect against certain gut infections and boost the immune system. These products usually contain kinds of bacteria normally found in the canine gut, such as:
There are multiple reasons, one should consider administering probiotics to humans or animals. Sometimes beneficial microbes are destroyed, resulting in stomach upset and a decline in health. If your dog recurrently suffers from diarrhea or other gut-related disorders, your veterinarian may suggest using probiotics for dogs to boost the number of beneficial bacteria.
Antibiotics do not discriminate between good and bad bacteria. And while antibiotics are effective at fighting infection, they may also damage the beneficial bacteria and cause diarrhea or other gastrointestinal side effects in your dog.
But you can avoid these side effects by starting your dog on probiotics.
As a dog breeder of 12+ years, I learned the importance of probiotics and health benefits for my dogs, from my vet. When she suggested that I give my dog probiotics, daily, I began to research the benefits.

As a result of the research, I soon learned that probiotics in fact do have several health benefits for a dog.
First off, it is wonderful at balancing the good and bad bacteria in the dog’s digestive system.
Second, it is said that probiotics can help with other conditions like gas, regulating bowel movements, improving skin/coat, teeth, and eliminating gastrointestinal upset.
Another cool thing is that Probiotics for dogs might also improve your dog’s behavior. Kinda crazy right?
Probiotics are available in a variety of forms and formulations including capsules, pills, chewy treats, and probiotic powders. While choosing a probiotic product, the first thing to consider is the tastes and preferences of your dog. If your dog refuses to take certain forms of a probiotic, then go for other forms of the product, for example, certain dogs are reluctant to take pills.
Another thing to consider when choosing the right probiotic for your dog is the type of beneficial bacteria it contains. Ideally, the packaging will enlist the strains of bacteria present in the probiotic and will include a description of the reported benefits of those strains.
WHAT KIND SHOULD I GET???
Personally, I have seen the benefits of daily probiotics for dogs, with my own dogs. As I said, We have tried a few different probiotics over the years, but the one I have been most satisfied with is called Probios
They have the powder form and the pill form. We use the powder form sprinkled on their kibble. I highly recommend this product as it is a pre and probiotic for dogs and has been working for me for about six years. As a result, I am so confident in this product that I not only recommend it to all my customers, and fellow breeders, but it is a requirement on my puppy contracts that all pups bought from me must be given it daily!
I have seen improvements in my dog’s stools and gas is practically non-existent. TRUST ME, IT’S WONDERFUL.
Probios is used as a daily supplement to help digestion and to maintain normal stool consistency in dogs and cats. It can be used during diet changes or during other times of stress.
You’ll see a few different products below, including PROBIOS. All you have to do is click the picture and it will bring you to the purchase site!
